Bathurst is a lovely old city in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.
For over 30 years the Disciples of Jesus Convent Community has been serving the needs of young people in a Summer School. During this time the youth receive personal spiritual support, theological training and have the opportunity to share their personal experience of faith and Christian Community. The Summer School offers a practical opportunity to experience, participate in and question issues, methods and vision for evangelisation in areas such as: Prayer, Discernment, Healing, Gifts of the Holy Spirit and participate in charismatic praise, worship and Holy Mass.
This year 7-14 of January Summer School in Bathurst gathered more than 200 young people from Australia. They came here to get away from the rush, hurry, bustle of their daily lives to stay with Jesus.
The theme for this Summer School was “The Light of the World “. We reflected on “who God is” and discovered our image of God as well as who we are for God – God’s image of us.
One girl shared her previous experience of the Summer School: “When I first time came to SS I thought it was a ridiculous waste of time, but the experience of God that I had that first time changed the course of my life.”
In my opinion SS was a brilliant idea and perfectly organized. It was amazing – so many young people praying, sharing faith and discerning their way of the life. They were open to God and allowed God to shape their heart.
It was really a powerful experience for me. I am proud of the Young Catholic Church in Australia because of their genuine love for Jesus. In daily life it is not easy for them to practice their faith. These young people chose a different way of living and loving.
Dear youth in this Year of Youth I promise to remember you in my prayer. Thank you so much for your witnesses to be disciple of Christ.
