Our Congregation, here in Australia, is relatively small, numbering 24 Sisters in 2006…but we are part of a much larger picture. Together with approximately 1,500 fellow Sisters living and ministering to families in 13 (at this time) different countries throughout the world, we find support and companionship in knowing that we are not alone. The contribution of each and every Sister adds to the full picture of who we are as Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. We journey with each other through our prayer with and for each other…and through our commitment to living out together, in practical ways, the vision of our Foundress, Blessed Frances Siedliska, who initiated this journey, in Rome, nearly 130 years ago.
Frances Siedliska (Blessed Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd) was a woman of deep prayer. She discovered in the lives of the Holy Family of Nazareth a model of the Trinity’s total self-giving love. She accepted God’s invitation to participate in the mystery of this love and responded to the mission entrusted to her by founding the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Born in Poland and establishing the foundations of her new Congregation in Rome in 1875, Frances Siedliska opened the door of her community to receive vocations of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, desiring, above all, that this Congregation would be international, having but one goal, one heart...spreading the Kingdom of God’s Love on earth...through dedicated ministry to the contemporary needs of the Church, especially in ministry to families.
